I am writing to express my deep gratitude for the impact that HHREC has had on my personal, academic, and professional journey. I began interning at the agency when I was a senior in high school. At that time, I was still trying to figure out my future and felt hesitant about going to college. As a first-generation student, I did not have much guidance when it came to navigating higher education, career options, or understanding what steps I needed to take to build a successful future. It was through HHREC that I began to believe in my potential and see that college and a meaningful career were possible for me.

The agency supported me in so many important ways. HHREC allowed me to explore different career paths, develop college success skills, and prepare myself for the workforce. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world experience, I grew both personally and professionally. The agency not only connected me with mentors who guided and encouraged me, but it also helped me become a leader myself. Over time, I was allowed to mentor and support other youth in Oakland, which has been one of the most meaningful parts of my journey.

I am currently working toward my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at California State University, East Bay. This path would not have been possible without the support, encouragement, and push. I received it from HHREC. The agency believed in me, motivated me to keep going, and reminded me of the importance of earning both my diploma and my degree. Their investment in my growth helped shape my confidence and determination to continue my education.

Today, I am also on the path toward working at another nonprofit agency, and I know I would not be in this position without HHREC. The skills, knowledge, leadership experience, and mentorship I gained there have prepared me for the next step in my career and inspired me to continue serving my community. HHREC has truly been a foundation in my life, and I will always be thankful for the role it has played in helping me become the person I am today.
